Mark 13:37

'What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch!' Theme: Judgement Day. Analyses how God speaks through calamities to awaken the conscience through consideration of the uncertainty of the time when God will come to judgement and the duty arising from this uncertainty.

Matthew 26:63-66

'...And the High Priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the son of God. 'Theme: Sacrifice of Jesus. Considers the Jewish Governors prejudice, the confession and sentence of Christ. Attends to the history in a way of spiritual improvement. Urges the congregation to consider what Christ suffered and accept him because of this.

Romans 13:1

'Let every soul be subject unto the powers. For there is no power but of God...' The beginning of a sermon on various governors of families and communities. Refers to magistrates as benefactors of God.

Revelation 3:2

June 1815, watermark 1808. 'Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.' Theme: Judgement. Discusses when it may be said that the things which remain in use are ready to die and the Apostle's advice to persons in such a state. Concludes with a word to those who have always been faithful to God and those who have no claim at all.

Jeremiah 8:20-21

'The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved...' Theme: Death and Judgement. Establishes who they are that are not saved and the misery of their State. Concludes with a warning to prepare for the kingdom of God.

Luke 13:28-29

Watermark 1815. 'There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out...'Theme: Consequences of disbelief. Considers the promise, the means used to accomplish it, and makes further observations on the subject. Refers to colonial administration, the British Empire, missionaries in. Africa and India. Observes that the kingdom of heaven is thrown open to all natives and that no matter what part of the world they live and die, those that believe are blessed.

Romans 8:13

Watermark 1809. 'For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye live through the spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.' Theme: Eternal Life. Describes the importance in knowing out. State before God and what it will be in the eternal world. Considers the 'truths' as a carnal love terminating in everlasting misery and a life of mortification and self-denial terminating in everlasting happiness. Concludes with a recommendation to improve the present state.

Luke 12:16-18

Watermark 1808. 'And he spake a parable unto them, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully...' Theme: Sharing Belief. Describes the belief that those who are interested in religion should teach the way of Salvation. Observes in relation to the parable that God invites us to partake of the Blessings of the Gospel and they are rejected with frivolous excuses. Concludes with an address to those who do not accept the Gospel.
