Handwritten loose leaf sermons early-mid 1970s
KCC Preaching Conference 2003: notes
A document containing Chapman’s notes for his address, including the theology of preaching, and the importance of illustration and application.
Why every church should be running the Alpha Course, Prepare for Service, No. 24, Feb 1997, p. 1-7
The article provides a general review of the Alpha course. While Chapman believed that the sociology of the course was positive and appealing, he notes various reservations regarding the courses’ theological assumptions.
Prayer and the Christian - unpublished treatise on prayer
This document was produced during Chapman’s time as Director of Christian Education, Armidale Diocese. It reveals, among other things, Chapman’s early influences by Reformed scholars, an ability for synthetic theological reflection, and a concern for disciplined Christian prayer.
Moore College Mission handbook
A resource provided to students of Moore College in preparation for the annual Moore College Missions. The resource contains (among other things) the full text of Chapman's 'Dialogue Evangelism' course, developed over the period of his time as Director of the Department of Evangelism. Its inclusion and its contents demonstrate the influence Chapman's evangelistic leadership and methodology had on the student body.
Handwritten loose-leaf sermons, 1980s -
This document overviews the preaching course Chapman taught and led at Moore College until 2005. It prescribes certain readings for students on preaching which Chapman considered important. It also articulates the course practicum, including the process of student sermon review.
Correspondence with David Claydon, CMS Federal Secretary
Correspondence between Chapman and David Claydon, Federal Secretary CMS, 1997 “Is Development a Missionary Task?” Checkpoint Magazine (Spring 1997), 6–8.
The correspondence and article reveal Chapman’s desire to safeguard the theology of mission as an activity of proclamation, which is supported by Christian service and social care, and not to conflate the two activities.
The Lord of Heaven and Earth - unpublished teaching series
This document reveals the full text of a series of addresses which Chapman gave at numerous points in his public ministry. Chapman states in the preface that the material owes its inspiration to a series of sermons given by Dr. Broughton Knox at the CMS Summer School for Queensland and Northern NSW in 1965. The addresses cover a range of themes including the sovereignty of God, the righteousness of God manifested in the atonement, the theme of the kingdom of God in the preaching ministry of Jesus and Paul, and the love of God in creation and redemption. These would become significant themes in Chapman’s later publications.
