Isaiah 55:6

'Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.' Theme: Insensibility toward eternal things. Observes there is reason to fear that God is absent for most people and we cannot hope to find God if we do not seek him. Urges those who are 'afflicted' and those who are advanced in life to seek God.

Exodus 20:15

Watermark 1824. 'Thou shalt not steal.' Theme: Stealing. Describes what this command prohibits and enjoins and the causes of man's transgressing it. Illustrates that there is little temptation in the colony when compared to Britain, therefore there is little reason to break the commandment in the colony. Addresses those guilty of sin.

Matthew 21:28-31

Watermark 1815. 'But what think ye? A certain man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, son, go work in my vineyard...' Theme: Repentance. Compares the conduct of the two sons according to the parable. Concludes that it is not always the most spiritual that will go to heaven, the character of man being determined by their actions and the most declared rebel, if he repents, shall be accepted by God

1 Peter 1:3-5

Watermark 1815. 'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which, according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again...' Theme: Redemption. Considers the causes of regeneration as a spiritual and supernatural change of heart and the security of the regenerate. Refers to the happiness of God's people and future happiness in the world to come. Cautions those not begotten again to hope.

Mark 10:49-50

'...And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise, he calleth thee...' Theme: Blessings from God. Considers the state of the person whom Jesus called, the encouragement which the call gave him and its effect. Concludes with assurances to those who seek the Lord.

Isaiah 55:6

'Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.' Theme: Seeking of God. An extension of no. 70 with an addition considering that there is a time coming when God will not be found so we should seek him now. Applies this to the young and the afflicted.

Matthew 18:32-35 and Luke 16:8

(1) Matthew 18:32-35 'Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thou all that left...' Theme: Duty of forgiveness. Considers the extent, reasonableness and necessity of Christian forgiveness.
(2) Luke 16:8' And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done wisely; for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.' Theme: Belief. Considers the wisdom of the unjust steward and the folly of God's children. Advises the congregation to choose God as Lord and Master.

1 Kings 21:20

'And Ahab said to Elijah: Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the Lord.' Theme: Sin and Repentance. Shows how greedily men commit sin, how indignantly they take reproof and how certainly they ruin their souls. Advises on repentance and reformation.

Isaiah 45:23-25

Watermark 1809. 'I have sworn by myself...that unto me every knee shall bow every tongue shall swear...' Theme: Redemption. To illustrate this oath considers its subject matter and accomplishment. Encourages subjects of the Redeemer's kingdom to rejoice.

Requests assistance in the erection of two churches in Sydney. Desires to obtain an order from the Home Government to secure the Church of England's possession of the King's School at Parramatta. Expresses a wish to maintain the parochial schools according to the English National System and is opposed to the proposed introduction of the Irish System. Wishes to obtain the services of more clergymen in the colony and also asks for donations for the payment of clergy. James Macarthur is travelling to England to present a petition to the Houses of Parliament requesting that measures be taken for the good government of the colony.
