Audio recordings of interviews and addresses given by Mary Andrews
Andrews, Mary Maria
This series contains material written by Mary Andrews, including both handwritten and printed materials but excluding her diaries (see Series 2), notes and correspondence pertaining to her biography "Going it Alone" and other autobiographical material (see series ??), correspondence and draft correspondence (series 4), and personal newsletters (series 5-6).
The series includes first drafts of articles and addresses, completed short publications, fragmentary notes (names and contact details etc.), notes on sermons and addresses she had attended, annotated texts of varying length, and drafts of Deaconess House monthly reports.
The content of this series was separated in part from Mary's collection of personal letters received (see Series 1), and was otherwise collected piecemeal from miscellaneous unsorted paperwork distributed haphazardly throughout the collection. It is unknown if there was any original intended order to these latter papers (though it seems unlikely) or if the arrangement was an arbitrary decision by Archives Consultant Debra Leigo, who supervised the re-boxing of the collection in 2011.

Audio recordings made or acquired by Mary Andrews
Mary Andrews made and retained much audio-visual material. She collected published material from various organisations and appears to have recorded addresses at services and meetings she attended . She recorded hymns and other sacred music and interviews from radio programs and she owned a range of commercial recordings acquired either by purchase and gift. The quality of the tapes is unknown.
The audio records that have been retained consist of meetings of organisations in which Mary was active, and of addresses in the main areas of her interest including the ministry of women. Some of these supplement the printed records held in this collection.
Commercial material and material recorded from radio programs (thus governed by complex intellectual property provisions) has been destroyed.
Tapes of services (mainly Healing Ministry) at St Andrews Cathedral have been transferred to Moore College Library.
Tales of Verlag Evangelische Marienwesternschaff, Darmstadt-Eberstadt, (Basilea Schlink) Germany, mainly addressed by Basilea Schlink have been offered to Moore College Library.
The following have been retained.

Medals, pendants and other jewellery owned by Mary Andrews
This series contains medals, pendants and other jewellery owned by Mary Andrews. Of particular importance is her Order of Australia (AM) medal awarded in 1980 for Services to Religion. The series also includes commemorative medals issued by the International Biographical Association, a wooden cross with a raised floral pattern worn by Deaconess Schleicher (the first deaconess in the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, circa1885), and Deaconess Andrews' personal collection of pendants, earrings, etc which includes her Deaconess emblems and pins.

English-language books used by Mary Andrews while on missionary service
This series contains English-language books, mostly hardcovers, which were most likely used by Mary Andrews during her missionary service in China. It contains theological works, religious texts such as Prayer Books, nursing, pastoral and general advice texts, and a small amount of fiction and poetry.
It is impossible to determine definitively whether some of these texts were used on the mission field. Consideration has been given to the condition of the volumes (showing wear or water damage from travel), the context and topicality, and the publication date. Mary Andrews would later come into possession of tomes from the Deaconess House library, as well as texts inherited from various acquaintances and ecclesiastical figures, so an early publication date is not in itself conclusive evidence that any given volume ever travelled to China. This series excludes texts in Chinese (including English-Chinese Bibles and phrasebooks), and Bibles (see series 26).
Andrews, Mary Maria
This series contains English-language Bibles - in various editions and translations - used by Mary Andrews. Bibles that have been retained are ones that contain clear signs of use as well as underlined passages and marginal annotations, and in some cases handwritten inserts.
Additionally, some Bibles have been preserved due to the historical interest of their provenance. Mary had possession of a Bible owned by former Archbishop of Sydney (and missionary to China) Mowll, presented to her as a keepsake after his death, as well as a New Testament commemorating the death of the late Archbishop's father. A nearly-pristine illustrated Bible presented to Mary before her departure on missionary service (but to all appearances not taken on that voyage and never used) has similarly been preserved.
Deaconess Andrews frequently left scraps of annotated paper, bookmarks and old envelopes inserted to mark places in the volumes, and these have been left in their original position where possible and desirable. While some of the inserts include annotations of particular relevance to the passage they mark, in many cases it is clear that they were used as bookmarks only with no relevance to the wider context.
A small number of Bibles has been disposed of due to a lack of historical interest - easily-obtainable translations with no features particular to Mary Andrews other than an occasional bookmark. Chinese Bibles have not been included in this series, and neither have other religious texts (such as Prayer Books).

Third party papers in Mary Andrews' possession
This series contains letters and other personal papers that were neither written by nor addressed to Mary Andrews. In a number of cases these are letters where a copy has been sent to Mary Andrews for her information; others (including the papers of former fellow missionary in China Norah Dillon) pertain to individuals or subjects she was interested in.
In some cases the reason for these papers being in Mary Andrews' possession is entirely unclear.
Some eulogies and letters of condolence sent to Mary Andrews' relatives following her death have been removed.

Correspondence received from family
This series contains letters and cards received by Mary Andrews from family members, principally after her return from missionary service in China and throughout the rest of her life. It does not include correspondence from her mother.
Mary Andrews was a diligent correspondent, and appears to have been in regular contact by mail with her extended family throughout her time as Principal of Deaconess House and during her retirement.

*Florence ("Florrie") McGoffick (nee Andrews), Mary's sister.
*Anne [later Lathrop, see note below] and Maryanne [married surname
