Luke 3:19-20

Watermark 1830. 'But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias...and for all the evils which Herod had done...' Theme: Sin. Considers the power of sin and the malignity of inflicting misery and ruin. Discusses his belief that the Scriptures should not be read as history only because it does not reveal the 'heart' of God's word.

Isaiah 11:10

This sermon appears to use Simeon’s outline on this passage but Marsden has not copied out slabs. Isaiah 11 C. V. 10. In that day there shall be a root of Jesse.

2 Timothy 3:12

Watermark 1808. 'All that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer Persecution.' Theme: Trials of the righteous. Considers the Apostle St Paul and St Peter's assumptions on the topic, and the inference St Paul draws from it. Concludes with a warning to the ungodly that God is with them every day.

Job 34:29

Watermark 1829. 'When he giveth quietness who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him...' Theme: Comfort of God. Observes that none can trouble those whom God comforts and none can comfort those whom he troubles. Addresses those who enjoy the comfort of God.

Philippians 3:10

Watermark 1797. 'That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.' Theme: Redemption. Considers what is meant by the Power of Christ's resurrection and shows that it is desirable to know that power.

Hebrews 10:19-22

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus and by a new and living way...' Theme: Redemption. Considers the text in relation to the grounds of access to God and the manner in which we should approach him. Urges the congregation to go to God regardless of their state.

John 1:18

Watermark 1815. 'No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he bath declared him.' Theme: God, the Father. Inquires as to what Christ declared of the Father and how he declared him. Concludes with an address to those who are ignorant of God.

Hebrews 11:13

'These all died in faith, not having received the promises...'Theme: Faith in God. Endeavours to show how these Prophets and Patriarchs did not receive the promises, that they believed and received him and confessed themselves pilgrims and strangers. In conclusion compares the effect of the promises of the Gospel on the Prophets and how it ought to impress us.

Luke 11:21-22

Watermark 1815. 'When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace...' Theme: The Lord's Miracles. Explains the parable in Mark 13:18-22. Discusses the state of men who believe all miracles are the result of superstitious beliefs. Concludes with an exposition on the duty of those who are converted to God.

Psalm 42:5

'Why art thou cast down, O my Soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.' Theme: The Christian State of Probation. Points out the sources of a Christians disquietness and its remedy. Compares those who sin as the children of the devil and those who strive against sin as the children of God. Warns those cast down to read the promises of God.
