Luke 3:19-20

Watermark 1830. 'But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias...and for all the evils which Herod had done...' Theme: Sin. Considers the power of sin and the malignity of inflicting misery and ruin. Discusses his belief that the Scriptures should not be read as history only because it does not reveal the 'heart' of God's word.

Luke 15:8-10

Watermark 1809. '...Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.' Theme: Salvation. Considers Jesus concern for the sinful and worthless and his willingness to aid their recovery. Contemplates the
little regard men have of their souls, the effects of a faithful administration of Gods word and the thankfulness those should have who have found the Lord.

Genesis 18:19

Watermark 1828. 'For I know him that he will command his children...and they shall keep the way of the Lord...' Theme: Influence and Piety. Uses Abraham as an example of piety. Shows the use we should make of Influence, i.e. diligence and improvement and the benefits arising from its use.

Ecclesiastes 7:16

Watermark 1829. 'Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: Why shouldest thou destroy thyself?' Theme: Moderation. Refers to those who have little concern for religion and those who die before their time. Explains the caution that the text implies. (See no. 79 for complete sermon).

Isaiah 11:10

This sermon appears to use Simeon’s outline on this passage but Marsden has not copied out slabs. Isaiah 11 C. V. 10. In that day there shall be a root of Jesse.

Matthew 25:35-40

'For I was enhungred, and ye gave me meat...' Theme: Charity. Explains the need to take into account principles, conduct and activity in doing good. Considers the proper exercises of Christian Benevolence, their acceptability to Jesus and their importance to ourselves. Urges the congregation to show benevolence and compassion to a charity collection for the Benevolent Asylum.

Hebrews 1:6

Watermark 1813. 'And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.' Theme: Worship of God. Observes that Christ is a proper object of divine worship and that his Incarnation was a call to Heaven and
Earth to worship him. Highlights the need to accept and believe in Christ before death.

2 Timothy 3:12

Watermark 1808. 'All that will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer Persecution.' Theme: Trials of the righteous. Considers the Apostle St Paul and St Peter's assumptions on the topic, and the inference St Paul draws from it. Concludes with a warning to the ungodly that God is with them every day.

Luke 8:50

'But when Jesus heard it, he answered Him, saying, Fear not: believe only and she shall be made whole.' Theme: Belief rewarded. Considers the rulers faith, how it was tried, operated and rewarded. Concludes that everyone must expect trouble so let it drive them to Jesus.

Isaiah 55:6

'Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.' Theme: Insensibility toward eternal things. Observes there is reason to fear that God is absent for most people and we cannot hope to find God if we do not seek him. Urges those who are 'afflicted' and those who are advanced in life to seek God.
