Prayer and the Christian - unpublished treatise on prayer
This document was produced during Chapman’s time as Director of Christian Education, Armidale Diocese. It reveals, among other things, Chapman’s early influences by Reformed scholars, an ability for synthetic theological reflection, and a concern for disciplined Christian prayer.
The Lord of Heaven and Earth - unpublished teaching series
This document reveals the full text of a series of addresses which Chapman gave at numerous points in his public ministry. Chapman states in the preface that the material owes its inspiration to a series of sermons given by Dr. Broughton Knox at the CMS Summer School for Queensland and Northern NSW in 1965. The addresses cover a range of themes including the sovereignty of God, the righteousness of God manifested in the atonement, the theme of the kingdom of God in the preaching ministry of Jesus and Paul, and the love of God in creation and redemption. These would become significant themes in Chapman’s later publications.
Greetings and thanks presented to Chapman on his farewell from the DOE, August 1995
These greetings reveal:1) the geographical extent of Chapman’s ministry, 2) the esteem with which he was held by colleagues and ministry leaders across the world, and 3) sincere reflections on Chapman’s personal piety.
Personal comments, Paul Barnett, 1995
This document records the text of an address given by Dr. Paul Barnett (Bishop of North Sydney) on the occasion of the launch of Chapman’s biography, For the Sake of the Gospel. Barnett reflects on the qualities that contributed to Chapman’s impact as an evangelist. He describes Chapman as a “theologian-evangelist, who may be the first in modern times to do evangelism in terms of such carefully considered theology.”
The text of a letter in which Dr. Carson expresses his desire that Chapman’s evangelistic audio material “will be used in small-group evangelistic settings around the world.”
This compendium of files demonstrates Chapman’s wide prayer concerns and commitments until the 4th Quarter of 2012. Chapman noted prayer requests as complete and marked these with a tick against the request. The compendium also demonstrates the international breadth of Chapman’s ministry and ministry partnerships. He regularly prayed for Reformed evangelical leaders in England (Palmer, Lucas, Taylor, Tice), South Africa (Retief), North America (Hughes), Asia (Clarke), Australia (Jensen, Cook, Peterson, Moore College Faculty), Armidale diocesan leaders (Lewers, Chiswell), AFES leaders (Chin, Chiswell), and CMS Mission Partners. The age of the compendium and its photos is indicative of long-held practice.
