1 Peter 4:7

'But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.' Theme: Sobriety. Discusses the duty associated with sobriety and the reason for it as being that the end of all things is at hand. A sermon for the New Year.

Romans 8:6

'For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.' Theme: Spirituality vs Carnality. Discusses the difference between the carnal and spiritual mind by considering their operations and effects. Concludes with an address to both the carnal and spiritual persons.

Luke 2:10-11

'And the Angel said unto them, Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people...' Theme: The Birth of Christ. Endeavours to elucidate the Tidings announced and consider their importance. A Christmas sermon with an exhortation to break from sinful ways for this may be the last Christmas.

Luke 13:28-29

Watermark 1815. 'There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out...'Theme: Consequences of disbelief. Considers the promise, the means used to accomplish it, and makes further observations on the subject. Refers to colonial administration, the British Empire, missionaries in. Africa and India. Observes that the kingdom of heaven is thrown open to all natives and that no matter what part of the world they live and die, those that believe are blessed.

Jeremiah 28:16

'...this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the Lord. Theme: The approachment of death and judgement. Shows that we must all die and nothing can secure us against death. Concludes with an entreaty for those who do not believe in the Sentence of Death to reflect upon their ruined state.

Nahum 1:7

'The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.' Theme: Belief and Trust. Considers God as represented in the text in the perceptions of his nature, the provisions of his covenant and the dispensations of his grace. Concludes by considering possible improvements as acquainting ourselves with God and studying to glorify God.

Job 19:25-27

Watermark 1813. 'For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.' Theme: Christ's redemption of the congregation. Considers Christ's confession and the lessons to be learned from it. Observes that the knowledge of Christ will provide hope, support and comfort.

Isaiah 11:6-9

'The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb...' Theme: Judgement. Considers the time when God's kingdom will be extended over all earth and peace shall reign. Discusses the charge that will be wrought in main, in the latter days, and the means by which it is to be affected. Concludes with an address to those who believe and their security.

Psalm 51:7

Watermark 1808. 'Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.' Theme: Repentance. 1 page outlining the sermon content. Considers the nature of sin and the means of deliverance from it.

1 Peter 4:12-16

'Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you...' Theme: Trials. Considers the various trials that should be expected by everyone by showing in what light we should view trials, the reason why they should be viewed in that light and what we should guard against in relation to it. Concludes with a warning to those who neglect God's mercy.
