Preaching 2A: course overview

This document overviews the preaching course Chapman taught and led at Moore College until 2005. It prescribes certain readings for students on preaching which Chapman considered important. It also articulates the course practicum, including the process of student sermon review.

Correspondence from Matthias Media

The correspondence confirms the publishing relationship established between Chapman and Matthias Media for the republication of his popular work, Know and Tell the Gospel. The correspondence also reveals that the republished material was intended to address the growing discussion surrounding 1) the identity of the evangelist, 2) the supportive roles played by congregation members in the evangelistic process, and 3) the breadth of the Christian’s responsibility/involvement in evangelism.

Correspondence with David Claydon, CMS Federal Secretary

Correspondence between Chapman and David Claydon, Federal Secretary CMS, 1997 “Is Development a Missionary Task?” Checkpoint Magazine (Spring 1997), 6–8.
The correspondence and article reveal Chapman’s desire to safeguard the theology of mission as an activity of proclamation, which is supported by Christian service and social care, and not to conflate the two activities.

Personal comments, Paul Barnett, 1995

This document records the text of an address given by Dr. Paul Barnett (Bishop of North Sydney) on the occasion of the launch of Chapman’s biography, For the Sake of the Gospel. Barnett reflects on the qualities that contributed to Chapman’s impact as an evangelist. He describes Chapman as a “theologian-evangelist, who may be the first in modern times to do evangelism in terms of such carefully considered theology.”

Prayer diary

This compendium of files demonstrates Chapman’s wide prayer concerns and commitments until the 4th Quarter of 2012. Chapman noted prayer requests as complete and marked these with a tick against the request. The compendium also demonstrates the international breadth of Chapman’s ministry and ministry partnerships. He regularly prayed for Reformed evangelical leaders in England (Palmer, Lucas, Taylor, Tice), South Africa (Retief), North America (Hughes), Asia (Clarke), Australia (Jensen, Cook, Peterson, Moore College Faculty), Armidale diocesan leaders (Lewers, Chiswell), AFES leaders (Chin, Chiswell), and CMS Mission Partners. The age of the compendium and its photos is indicative of long-held practice.
