Donald Robinson enlisted in the Australian Army in 1942 and worked in signals intelligence at the Central Bureau in Brisbane and then in Papua New Guinea. He was discharged in 1945 but maintained an interest in the Bureau and in military intelligence. He received the newsletters of the Central Bureau Intelligence Corps (1975-2009) and collected magazine articles and news clippings relating to code breaking.
