The inaugural meeting of the Australian Historical Society was held on March 15th 1901. The Australian Historical Society Journal and Proceedings was first published in 1906, and the use of the prefix 'Royal' was granted in 1918. They have been based in History House in Macquarie St Sydney since 1971. Rose, Herbert John

Herbert John Rose was born in Hertford, England and educated at King's College, University of London. He was ordained in 1882, and in 1884 accompanied Bishop Alfred Barry to Australia to serve as Rector of Christ Church North Sydney until 1885. During 1885 he served as the Protestant chaplain to the New South Wales contingent to Sudan, and subsequently appointed honorary chaplain to the NSW Volunteer Forces. He also served as chaplain during the Boer War. From 1885 until his death he was rector of St Anne's Strathfield. He married Harriet Priddle in 1887 and they had three sons and one daughter.

Rook, William Noel

William Noel Rook studied at Moore College from 1924 and graduated with the Th.L. in 1926. He was ordained priest in 1927 and served in Chatswood, Willochra, Hornsby, Lane Cove, Rockdale, Canterbury and Epping. He was one of the "Memorialists" in 1938. From 1941-1945 he served as a chaplain with the AIF. In 1965 he was appointed Honorary Canon of St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney.

Robinson, Richard Bradley

Archdeacon Richard Bradley Robinson was born in Randwick, studied at Moore Theological College and was ordained in 1912. In 1916 he married Gertrude Ross. He was rector of several parishes including St Paul's Chatswood, St Barnabas Broadway and St Stephen's Willoughby. He was also a Canon of St Andrew's Cathedral, chaplain to the Deaconess Institution and a trustee of the estate of Thomas Moore. He retired in 1956 and died in 1966.
