H.N. Powys studied at Moore College from 1914-1916 and was ordained priest in 1917. He served as Rector in Picton, Penrith, Emu Plains, Annandale, Neutral Bay and Rose Bay/Vaucluse. From 1943-1948 he was the honorary clerical organising secretary at Moore College. From 1950-1957 he was Rural Dean of East Sydney. In 1951 he was appointed a Canon of St Andrew's Cathedral.

Stone-Wigg, Montagu John

Montagu Stone-Wigg was born in Kent, educated at Oxford and ordained priest in 1885. After emigrating to Australia, he became became assistant curate (1889-91), vicar (1891) and canon residentiary and sub-dean (1892-98) at St John's Cathedral, Brisbane. In 1898 he was appointed Bishop of New Guinea, and resigned in 1908. In 1907 he married Elfie Mort and they had two daughters. Established in 1909 in Sydney by Canon F. B. Boyce, the Anglican Church League furthers the cause of Evangelicalism in Australia and is active in matters relating to, for example, revision of church literature and Synod issues. The League was established in opposition to the Protestant Church of England Union, and is affiliated with the National Church League in England.

St John the Baptist Anglican Church, Sutherland

St John the Baptist Church, Sutherland, built in the early part of the 20 th century, had, by the 1950's, become too small to house its growing congregation. In 1960 the Reverend C.N. Steele began a successful campaign to raise funds for the erection of a new church to be dedicated as a war memorial. On June 24, 1965, St. John the Baptist War Memorial Church, which was built largely using volunteer labour, was officially opened.
