Herbert Henry Davison was ordained Deacon in 1938, and Priest in 1939. He was the Chaplain at Norfolk Island from 1939 to 1941; Curate-in-Charge in the Parochial District of Wilberforce from 1941; Rector of St. David's, Surry Hills, 1945-1952; Rector of Cabramatta-Canley Vale from 1952; Rector of Soldiers Memorial Church, Cabramatta from 1955; and Rural Dean of Liverpool from 1960-1966. Reverend Davison died in 1969.
John Stoward Moyes was born in 1884. He graduated from the Australian College of Theology in 1907 and was ordained Priest in 1908. From 1918-1920 he was Chaplain to the Commonwealth Forces, becoming Bishop of Armidale in 1929, a position he held until 1964. In 1943 he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity from Trinity College, Toronto, Canada.
Sidney Noel Paddison graduated from Moore Theological College in 1941, was ordained Deacon in 1942 and Priest in 1943. He became the Curate-in-Charge of the Parish District of Mortdale, Oatley and Oatley West in 1947, becoming Rector in 1950 until 1954. He became Rector of Christ Church, Springwood in 1955, a position he held until his death in 1974.
Sir Marcus Loane KBE was born in Tasmania in 1911. He studied at the University of Sydney and Moore Theological College, and was ordained in 1935. Loane married Patricia Knox on 31 December 1937, the daughter of the rector of St Paul's, Chatswood. Together, they had four children; Mary, Robert, David and Winsome. He also served in the armed forces in Papua New Guinea as chaplain to the Australian Imperial Forces from 1942 to 1944. In 1958 he was consecrated as a bishop. He ministered among theology students and university students at Moore Theological College as vice-principal from 1939 to 1953, and then as principal from 1954 to 1959. Sir Marcus was the first Australian-born Archbishop of Sydney, serving in this role from 1966 to 1982, and was Primate of Australia from 1978 to 1982. William (Bill) James Lawton was born in 1934 in Sydney. A graduate of Moore College, the University of London and the Australian College of Theology, Bill also completed an MA at the University of Sydney and PhD from UNSW in 1985. From 1976-1989 he was Dean of Students and later Chapel Master at Moore College, while lecturing in History and Liturgy, Koine Greek and Ministry in an Australian Context. Bill served as Rector of Mulewa-Yalgoo in WA from 1967-1969, and from 1989-1999 was Rector of the Parish of East Sydney. This parish included the churches of St John’s, Darlinghurst, and St Peter’s, Woolloomooloo, which was deconsecrated in 1993 and sold to SCEGGS. Bill was also Chaplain to SCEGGS Darlinghurst and Elizabeth Lodge Retirement Village, Kings Cross. Bill was a member of many committees of the Australian General Synod and Diocese of Sydney Synod, includingthe Inner City Committee and the Liturgical Commission. From 2001-2007 he was the National Chaplain to Mission Australia. Bill is the author of many articles and publications including The Better time to Be: Utopian Attitudes to Society among Sydney Anglicans, 1885-1914(UNSW Press, 1990) and Shaping a Prayer Book for Australia (Prayer Book Society, 2010), and delivered the Annual Moore College Lectures in 1986: Being Christian, Being Australian.

Captain Henry Waterhouse (1770-1812) arrived in the colony with the First Fleet, as a midshipman on board Captain Phillip’s ship Sirius. He accompanied Phillip to Norfolk Island and on expeditions inland. After returning to England on the Supply in 1792, Governor Hunter appointed him captain of the Reliance and he sailed to Sydney again in 1795. Waterhouse imported the first Spanish merino sheep to the colony in 1797, and supplied lambs to many settlers including John Macarthur and Samuel Marsden. He supported the governor against the officers of the New South Wales Corps and was given several land grants. He would have made Moore’s acquaintance during this time, before
returning to England in 1800, where he lived near Rochester, Kent until his death. He was a witness at the marriage of his sister to George Bass and a friend of Matthew Flinders.
Thomas Moore arrived in the colony as ship’s carpenter on the Britannia in 1792, served as Master Boat Builder from 1796 to 1809, and was then granted a large property in the Liverpool district where he became a magistrate and sheep breeder.
