Troutman, Charles Henry

Charles Troutman was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, and studied at Wheaton College. Illinois. In 1942 he married Lois Dickason. In 1936 Charles became a staff member with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in Canada, then was sent to Michigan in 1939. After military service he became Associate General Secretary of IVF in the US from 1946-1953. He and his family moved to Australia and in 1954 Troutman became General Secretary of IVF Australia. In 1961 he became General Director, and served on the executive committee of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. In 1966 he joined Latin America Mission and moved to Costa Rica. He retired in 1979 and he and Lois moved to Arizona. Charles died in 1990 and Lois in 1991.

Festival of Light began in the UK under the influence of Malcolm Muggeridge, Mary Whitehouse and Sir Cyril Black. Committees were first formed in Australia in 1972, thanks to the involvement of Rev Lance Shilton, and it was formally launched in Adelaide in 1973. The same year, Rev Fred Nile became leader of the NSW branch. It became a national organisation with a National Council and Executive, state branches, regional committees and local church action groups. Its aims include promoting Christian family and community values and lobbying national and community leaders on issues relating to public morality. It sponsored Australian tours of Muggeridge and Whitehouse. It has submitted many parliamentary petitions on topics including pornography, abortion, prostitution, drugs & alcohol. ISCAST's mission is to develop and advocate a Christian perspective in the science-religion dialogue within the science community, the Christian community and society generally in the Australasian and international communities.
