The inaugural meeting of the Australian Historical Society was held on March 15th 1901. The Australian Historical Society Journal and Proceedings was first published in 1906, and the use of the prefix 'Royal' was granted in 1918. They have been based in History House in Macquarie St Sydney since 1971. In 1914, the first Diocesan Missioner was appointed. In 1927, the Board of Diocesan Mission was established.
