Report by W.G. Broughton on the Duffus case
Reports on the charges made against Rev. J. Duffus, minister of St. Luke' Church, Liverpool by the churchwardens regarding his moral conduct and acts of adultery with Charlotte Anne Forbes between June 1845 and June 1847. The purpose of writing the report is to examine the foundation of his episcopal jurisdiction and the legal right of a Colonial Bishop to exercise the same judicial power as Bishops in England. In doing so, he reports on the protest made by Mr. Duffus on the validity of the proceedings of the inquiry.
Gives a detailed report on the condition of church and school establishments in the colony in 1825 and 1829. In doing so he reports on the increases of Chaplains between 1825 and 1829 and recommends where additional schoolmasters and chaplains are required. Offers suggestions relating to future appointments of colonial chaplains. Reports on the school establishments in orphanages and matters relating to parochial infant and primary schools.Includes enclosures showing state in which the churches and schools were found in 1825 and their state in 1829.
