The Australian Branch was inaugurated on 1st March 1980. The Prayer Book Society in Australia was formed in 1983, with branches in NSW, South Australia and Victoria with Bishop Lionel Renfrey as patron, a sister society to those in England, Scotland, Canada, U.S.A and South Africa.

Captain Henry Waterhouse (1770-1812) arrived in the colony with the First Fleet, as a midshipman on board Captain Phillip’s ship Sirius. He accompanied Phillip to Norfolk Island and on expeditions inland. After returning to England on the Supply in 1792, Governor Hunter appointed him captain of the Reliance and he sailed to Sydney again in 1795. Waterhouse imported the first Spanish merino sheep to the colony in 1797, and supplied lambs to many settlers including John Macarthur and Samuel Marsden. He supported the governor against the officers of the New South Wales Corps and was given several land grants. He would have made Moore’s acquaintance during this time, before
returning to England in 1800, where he lived near Rochester, Kent until his death. He was a witness at the marriage of his sister to George Bass and a friend of Matthew Flinders.

Thomas Moore arrived in the colony as ship’s carpenter on the Britannia in 1792, served as Master Boat Builder from 1796 to 1809, and was then granted a large property in the Liverpool district where he became a magistrate and sheep breeder.

This group was established by the Synod of the Diocese of Sydney to develop Anglican Ministry to the Sporting community with particular focus on the lead up to the Sydney 2000 Olympics and beyond.

Dr Judd has been Chief Executive of HammondCare since 1995 and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency. He is the author of several publications on aged care as well as co-authoring "Sydney Anglicans: A History of the Diocese" with Professor Ken Cable.

The foundation stone of St Philip’s Caringbah was laid on 2nd July 1927, although services had been held in the Burns Hall since October 1924. The first Rector, Rev. Arthur Reeves, was appointed in 1933. As the church grew, so did various groups including the Mothers’ Union, Women’s Guild, GFS and CEBS. Caringbah became a provisional district in February 1957. A new church building, the War Memorial Church of St Philip, was opened by Archbishop Gough on 24th June 1961. On 8th August 1961 the church was granted a rise in status to that of Parish, without the intervening stage of Provisional Parish. A parish hall was constructed for the congregation at Taren Point in 1965. The Philippian parish paper was issued from 1967-1970, then re-introduced in 1977.

Douglas Campbell Tilghman (d. 1970) served in the Australian Imperial Forces in 1917–18 and was wounded at the Battle of Hamel in 1918. Following his return to Australia, he held managerial positions in the Primary Producers’ Bank of Australia in Bega, Warwick and Dirranbandi. In 1931 he was commissioned by the Queensland Government to compile a handbook on Queensland. He later worked in local government and was town clerk of Yass from 1944 to 1951 and town and shire clerk of Bourke from 1951 to 1955. He wrote three articles on railways for the Territorian in 1965, and a report following a tour of NT in 1950 on agriculture & development, for the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture. He retired to Berry on the south coast of New South Wales. He had a strong interest in both US and Australian history and in his later years carried out research on the history of the Shoalhaven district and Bega and the lives of Hamilton Hume, Boyle Travis Finniss and Captain Daniel Woodriff. His wife Margarita Tilghman was a descendant of Daniel Woodriff. His collection of Australian books and pamphlets was bequeathed to the Moore College Library, while his Americana collection was given to the National Library of Australia
